Reasons to start your own blog
Now let’s look at some reasons people want to start their own blogs. Some are basic, general reasons. Others are more personal and specific reasons.
It may be helpful to make a pros and cons list as you think of reasons that you want to start your own blog.
Allows you to be Creative
Starting your own blog allows you to be creative. From the beginning, your blog is totally yours to create. You decide what your blog will be about, you pick your niche. We’ll talk more about that in a minute. You decide on the topics, the name of your blog, the design, colors, and pictures.
Also, you decide how you write the blog. Everyone has their own writing style. You get to be creative in how you write your blog and each post that you publish.
Sharing with other people
After creating your blog and each post thereafter you are able to share it with friends, family, social media, and the world!
Does that sound overwhelming, or a bit frightening? Maybe, at first, but just think how that might help so many other people. Your knowledge and your experiences could help someone else that stumbles across your blog! How exciting is that?
While starting your own blog can be cathartic and/or a creative outlet for you it can also be helpful to others!
A way to connect with people
A blog is also a way to connect with more people. Make new connections all across the world. A blog allows people to not only read what you publish, but it also allows your readers to follow your blog, comment on your posts and even sign up through email to connect with you.
Blog posts can also allow your readers to follow you on any of the other social media platforms that you provide links to for them to click.
You can also connect with other bloggers and like-minded people. There are some great FaceBook blogging groups! These groups offer advice on blogging, give you tips and support as well as new friendships!
Start a blog to make money
You can make money from your blog. There are different ways that your blog can become profitable. You can have Affiliates through Rakuten or Share-A-Sale where you place ads on your blog posts. There are many other affiliates out there. You can also sell your own products or things you create. Have your own storefront through your blog or advertise your Etsy shop.
Tell Your Story
By starting your own blog you can tell your story. Telling your story can be therapeutic for you. It also can help others to know they aren’t alone in their own struggles.
While everyone’s story is unique to them, at the same time other people have been through similar struggles. Feeling desperate, alone, and like nobody understands. Reading someone else’s story can somehow bring hope or a sense of understanding to a person. Your mess can become a message that someone needs to hear. You may even add humor to it that helps brighten a person’s day. You just never know what you can offer another person through your words.
Why I wanted to start my own blog
There are several reasons that I wanted to start my own blog. Some are among the ones I’ve described above. So I’ll just give you a quick list of my main reasons for my own blog.
- I’ve always enjoyed writing
- I’ve often thought about writing short stories, I still may try it someday
- I’m a retired/disabled nurse that still loves to help people
- I suffer from depression and anxiety
- Spend a lot of time alone
- Hoping through my knowledge as a nurse and personal experience I can help others through my blog
- I enjoy connecting and sharing with others
- Writing and journaling is cathartic for me so I wanted to expand on that
- It’s a personal challenge. I have thought about blogging for a couple of years. I finally wanted to see if I could actually do it!
There you have it! Those are my personal reasons. I don’t think there is a set in the stone reason why you want to start your own blog. Although, I do think you should know your “why”.
How to Start Your Own Blog
In order to have a successful blog, you will need to know why you are blogging. You need to offer your readers what they need and want. Your posts will need to be helpful or at least entertaining to your readers.
First, you need to understand your goal or your “why” for starting your own blog. You will also have to determine your “niche” for your blog. Your “niche” is sort of like your main topic or genre that your blog will fall under.
Next Steps To Getting Started
The next initial steps to starting your own blog include thinking of a name. You want it to be unique and catchy, but not long or hard to remember and spell.
You will also need to look for web hosting and platforms for your blog. I personally use WordPress for my blog. I also use Ionos for my hosting. And I’ve been very pleased with the service I’m getting with Ionos.
There is a lot to learn about running a successful blog. I am still learning as I go. And I am enjoying every minute of the process!
What information I’ve offered here is just the tip of the iceberg! It’s the very minimal basics of getting started.
